Treatment for UTIs
At 247 GP, we understand the discomfort and disruption a UTI can cause. Our experienced medical team is dedicated to providing prompt and effective care for urinary tract infections.
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a common medical condition that affects millions of people every year. Fortunately, UTIs are easily treatable with antibiotics. Our 247 GP doctors may prescribe a course of antibiotics to help clear up the infection. It’s important to take the entire course of antibiotics as directed, even if you start feeling better before the medication is finished. This helps ensure that all the bacteria are eradicated, reducing the likelihood of a recurrence.
UTI Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
UTIs can be caused by bacteria that infect the bladder, urethra, kidneys, or other parts of the urinary tract. Symptoms may include pain or burning during urination, a strong urge to urinate, frequent urination, cloudy or bloody urine, and lower abdominal pain. If left untreated, UTIs can lead to serious complications, such as kidney damage or sepsis.
In addition to antibiotics, you can also take steps to manage your symptoms and speed up the healing process. Drinking plenty of water can help flush out the bacteria, and avoiding irritants like caffeine and alcohol can help reduce discomfort. You may also find relief from pain relievers.
Preventing future UTIs is also important. Some steps you can take include drinking plenty of water, wiping from front to back after using the bathroom, urinating after sex, and avoiding irritating feminine products or spermicides. If you’re prone to UTIs, your 247 GP doctor may recommend additional measures, such as taking a low-dose antibiotic regularly or using a vaginal estrogen cream.

Our practitioners accept various medical aids.
In general, the medical practitioners at 247 Medical, accept most of the well known medical aids (and not the medical insurance). Different rules apply for different medical aids and different practitioners (for example, the GPs take most medical aid plans on Discovery, but are not yet on the Smart Plan or Key Care Networks, whereas the Dentists accept both Smart Plan and Key Care). For the avoidance of doubt, please call us in advance of your appointment and enquire about your specific medical aid and medical aid plan.
